Childhood Memories

My family was planning a retirement party for my uncle. He worked for 14 years as a local police officer, then became an arson detective for his remaining career. My family is very big into country music. Whenever we come together there is usually alcohol involved, and we drink, eat food, and laugh, so what was going to make this event any different. The event was planned at a local Legion Home. The entire party was being catered by a local resturant, and my family hired a DJ to entertainment.

My uncle walked in, and everyone yelled, "SURPRISE" and the look on his face was awesome. He was smiling and shaking hands with the men, and hugging the women, and everyone congratulated him on his years of service. Everyone was having a great time, talking, eating, and occasionally dancing. Since my family does not come together very often, these times are very special to us and we do not want them to end.

Obviously the evening had to come to an end, and what better song to play but Friends in Low Places. Everyone got into a huge circle, put our arms around each other and sang the entire song, swaying back and forth to the music. What a perfect was to end the night.

Every time I hear that song, I revert back to that day when I was so happy to see my family come together and celebrate the career of one of New Jersey's finest.
