Too Fast! Too Furious! Too In Love!

“I was standing, all alone against the world outside. You were searching, for a place to hide…” It has been eight months since I accepted that a love so pure and innocent would never be a reality for me. Life was supposed to be simple then, because I was so young. I was alone in my search to find out who I really I am. I desperately wanted to belong.

 

“Lost and lonely, now you’ve given me the will to survive. When we’re hungry...love will keep us alive…” I met Carl at Ven’s house when I went there to get some things. Ven invited me in and introduced us. Ven jokingly said, “This is my friend, she recently broke up with her boyfriend, so now she is available.” Ven and I laughed at the joke, and then Carl suddenly said, “Don’t feel bad about it, because I’m here now.” I felt a bit awkward about what he said because I really don’t know him that much, so I just finished my business there and left.

”Don’t you worry, sometimes you’ve just gotta let it ride. The world is changing, right before your eyes. Now I’ve found you, there’s no more emptiness inside. When we’re hungry...love will keep us alive…” A month after we were informally introduced, I was at Ven’s house again with some friends. Then Carl arrived, he went straight to me and said, “How are you?” I was at lost for words for a moment because I felt that he was being too close for someone that I really don’t know. I just said that I was fine. I was trying to ignore him, but at the same time he was also trying so hard to get my attention. I don’t know what I was thinking then (maybe the alcohol had something to do with it), because before the night was over he became my boyfriend.

”I would die for you. Climb the highest mountain. Baby, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do…” All my friends were shocked when they found out, because he is 15 years older than me. My parents did not know because it was obvious that they will not approve, so we hid it. Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months, and before I knew what was happening – we were already living together. My parents did not suspect anything because they thought that I was staying with my friend. After a few months of living together I woke up one morning and I just had to know. I asked him, “Do you love me? Because if you don’t I’ll just go home, and forget this ever happened.” To which he replied, “I love you, but I don’t want to hurt your family. I think it’s best for you to go home and let’s do this the right way.” I was supposed to go home that day, but as I walked out of the house my mom was standing just outside. I approached her and all I can say was, “I’m so sorry, but I love him.”

Lost and lonely, now you’ve given me the will to survive… When we’re hungry...” Five months after my family found out that I was living with Carl (they did try to keep us apart), we got married. 12 years has passed and we are still married and every time we face problems in our relationship we always say to each other that... “Love will keep us alive…”
