Dancing Diva

LOCATION: Office Workstation , Philippines

YEAR: 2000

TAGS: dancing, office workstation, oops!... i did it again, britney spears

PUBLISHED: February 17, 2008

It was just one of those normal days at work when everybody was in a jolly mood. We were working so hard early in the week, but at least we have something to look forward to – Friday Gimmick Night! A few hours before lunch break everybody was hanging around my workstation, like it was the center of attraction of some sort. It was not because I was the most beautiful among the rest (I wish!), but simply because I exuded happiness and cheerfulness. At work that is important.

So their were we joking around and being noisy at the same time, when I decided to play the song Oops!... I Did it Again by Britney Spears (it was recently released that year). Immediately everybody came to my big workstation and was singing and dancing to the song – literally. We were like a crazy group of Britney Spears wannabees, I mean we were like dancing and singing like her. We were really having fun and we just somehow forgot that we were in an office!

In the midst of all the chaos, suddenly my co-workers stopped (actually they were still dancing and singing but suddenly subdued). I thought they were just fooling around so I said, “Aha! What’s the problem can’t compete?” I noticed that they were looking at something (or someone) behind my back, and at that point some of them were slowly walking away. I was still throwing my hands in the air, but in a slow motion like way – then I turned around. The moment I turned around I muttered, “Oh my God”, in plain view just outside his office door stood our VP. I slowly lowered my hands as if it will somehow erase what our VP just saw – a bunch of his staff in their most crazy antics. He just stood there for a few seconds (actually it felt like eternity), then he smiled and walked away with his executive secretary.

Later that day his secretary told us that our VP told the incident in their board meeting, and I was a special mention (what an embarrassment!). In the months that followed my co-workers fondly called me. “Oops! Britney is that you? Oh you shouldn’t have…”

We have show pigeons, and if I am feeling calm and peaceful, they cannot tear themselves away from my company - sitting on the windowsill outside my room and flying into the entryway if I open the door. It never fails to make me smile whenever I remember that day. Even now when I see my former co-workers they have this certain kind of funny look that seems to say that, "We Know What You Did and We'll Never Make You Forget"... I hope I can see those pigeons of yours, they must be very beautiful... Thanks for dropping by. (4/23/2008)
