A Shot of Confidence

LOCATION: Neighborhood Bar & Grill , Wisconsin

YEAR: 2008

TAGS: singing, journey, karaoke

PUBLISHED: April 16, 2008

As I've stated before, I am a karaoke girl but I have massive stage fright. I always worry that I'm singing the wrong song or I look like a dork. There are just a handfull of songs in my "repertoire" that I'm confident I can sing: "Daniel" by Elton John, "Sacrifice" by Elton John, "Babe" by Styx. "I Can't Tell You Why" by the Eagles and "Faithfully" by Journey. For some odd reason, I have a vocal range like Steve Perry--I can hit high notes like there's no tomorrow.

There's a guy where we frequent named "Diesel Dave" and the dude can sing. Heck, he even tried out for Idol once (never was on t.v. but at least he had the guts!). Anyway, the last time we were at "our place", it was packed and I really hate singing when it's packed but my friends made me go up & sing. So, I chose "Faithfully". My hands always shake when I grip the microphone and I barely move my body; I am frozen but I belt out the song and hit every high note.

At the end, I got a rousing round of applause. I bowed slightly and headed back to the table. Diesel Dave stops me and says, "Please never stop singing that song; you are amazing at it. I can't believe you hit those high notes!"

Man, talk about a big ol' shot of confidence! Thanks Diesel Dave!
