Sitting on the carriage stoneLOCATION: outside my house , Upstate NYYEAR: 1996TAGS: night, walking, conversation, shooting stars, crushesPUBLISHED: March 24, 2008Our group had hung out earlier in the evening - dinner, a movie - the usual summer home-from-college fun. He'd driven me home and we sat in the car talking for a while, not ready to call it a night, something was brewing between us. It was too gorgeous to be in the car so we moved outside, sitting on the old marble carriage stone in front of my house. From the house across the street, Automatic For the People was playing through the open window. He was the ultimate R.E.M. fan, I just loved the album. When the album finished we went for a walk through the village, spinning tales to make sense of the noises in the tree leaves - faller flies - and the amazing number of cats - after midnight the villagers all turn to cats, I was exempt for the night since I was in the company of a non villager. Ending up at the lake we sat and watched for shooting stars for hours, just talking. We said good night as the sun started to break through the darkness.
