Of MontrealLOCATION: bus , MontrealYEAR: 1991TAGS: class trip, walkman, busPUBLISHED: April 23, 2008Nothing defines my life better than Beatle albums. If you name an album, I could tell you when I was listening to it. My spurts would usually be of the six-month to one-year variety. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a full year listen when I was in ninth grade. It filled my bus rides and the moments between classes. In particular, it was our class trip to Montreal. I had become obsessed with the last four songs: Lovely Rita; Good Morning, Good Morning; Sgt. Pepper's (reprise); and A Day In The Life. I spent the hours long bus ride listening to those four songs over and over, dumbfounded at how fresh and new they still sounded 25 years after they were recorded. My only break from the four songs was taken when my friend asked me to listen to a song on her Walkman, Faith No More's Epic. She knew how to pique my interest, comparing the piano at the end to the Beatles. I gave it a listen, and did admit to liking the piano at then end, then I happily moved back to my Sgt. Pepper.
