It's raining today in Houston. Funny thing for a couple of reasons. Lately, my youngest son has not wanted to go to school in the morning. He's adjusting to a new school and town, so to help him get in a better mood in the morning, I sing "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" on the way to school. He laughs and sings along and usually gets in a better mood. He especially loves the ending melody- or maybe because he knows I'm going to stop singing. I know the lyrics because it was the very first song I learned to sing when I was in Kindergarten in 1970. The song was a huge #1 hit released as part of the soundtrack to the 1969 hit movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. That year it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was sung by B. J. Thomas - a native Houstonian - as a cover of the original written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach.
