Both Arms Wide Open

Yes, yes, I know, this is a sappy song, but sometimes it can still hit you...well, at least it hit me.

My second son was born in the Spring of 2003. Number two was a big adjustment for my wife and me. We were exhausted, so we treated ourselves and the boys to a long weekend at the W Hotel. We just wanted a couple of days where someone else cooked and cleaned. We didn't leave the room for three days. I remember Creed's video "With Arms Wide Open" playing on the TV. It may be corny, but I really connected with the song right then.

Whether it's a good song or not, it reminds me of how I felt at this time. I was wiped out and plain scared of being the Father of two. But I was also overwhelmed by how much love I felt for my little guys. Now that I have three kids, I laugh and just remember how nice it was with all of us sleeping in the same bed and the promise of Spring blowing in from Lake Michigan.

My Uncle loved this song (a father of two when the song came out as well). It makes me sad now b/c my cousin passed away and I can remember being in a hotel with them when we were younger and my Uncle would listen to this song repeatedly. Dads will always love this song and I'm sure I'll dig it up should I ever have kids ha. (6/30/2008)
