Why I Like Country

LOCATION: Camp Cabin , Pennsylvania

YEAR: 1998

TAGS: friends, high school, church

PUBLISHED: April 25, 2008

Growing up there were a couple of people I looked up to. A couple of them were from my church congregation, and they were just these beautiful, strong, and fun high schoolers that I greatly admired. One of them in particular was Jamie. I remember being so excited because she had been assigned as my girl’s camp counselor while I was in 8th grade, and I wanted to be her friend. We definitely did not become friends during girl’s camp, but that’s another story. One thing in particular I remember about that week was late one night she turned on a Shania Twain CD. I didn’t really like country music back then but had heard a couple of Shania songs. One in particular that I’d never heard was “Woman in Me.” Jamie played that song a couple of times that night and got me hooked on country music. When we got home from camp, I went out and bought the “Woman in Me” soundtrack and listened to that song over and over again. She found the country woman in me.
