Shea's Single Performance

LOCATION: Nikki's house , Provo, UT

YEAR: 2004

TAGS: Freshman year, singing, Shea

PUBLISHED: April 3, 2008

All year long my freshman year of college I'd heard about what an amazing singer my best friend Shea was. All year long, I'd heard about how shy he was and how he didn't want to sing in front of anyone. All year long, I tried to convince him that he needed to sing for me at least once. I was leaving for the summer, and he was leaving school for two years. Our friendship would never be the same when he got back- but that's another memory. So the night before I left, Nikki (another one of our mutual best friends), Shea and I went up the canyon to Nikki's beautiful house overlooking Provo. I don't remember why it was just the three of us, but I thought it was perfect. Somehow we convinced Shea that because we wouldn't see him for two years, that he had to sing for us. He finally agreed on one condition- we couldn't be in the room. He sat down at the piano and began to play Journey's Faithfully, and his voice really did meet and blow all of my expectations out of the water. There was no way we could stay in the other room. Nikki did an army roll, and I crawled on my belly as we made our way into the living room from the kitchen where we'd been listening. He finished the song because we all started cracking up laughing. We begged Shea to sing another song for us, but he never did.
