I remember Saturday's were always great when I was a kid. It was a day when I got to sleep in, watch cartoons all day and stay up late at night. My dad used to always rent a movie on Saturday evenings. He worked during the day but would rent a movie to watch with my brother and I at around 8 PM. I was only about 10, 11, and 12 years-old during that time period and my brother was younger, but man we watched a lot of R-rated Van Damme and Segall films. It was always something we looked forward to every week.

After the movie, my younger brother would usually go to sleep and my dad and I would stay up to watch Saturday Night Live. This was during the era when Farley, Sandler, Meyers, Rock, Schneider, Spade, Hartman and a bunch of other people were on the show. To me, this was the best cast SNL ever had. There were so many great skits and characters. I remember Matt Foley, the guy who lived in the "van down by the river" and seeing the old Wayne's World skits. I even used to have a recorded copy of the episode hosed by Charles Barkley when Nirvana was the musical guest.

I always used to like that time staying up late with my dad. We were always big into comedy and laughed so much at that show. Back then, I remember thinking how late it was and how cool it was to stay up. I rarely made it to the end of the show, which is funny to think about because 1 am seems fairly early for a Saturday night now.
