Paul, please meet Craig, who has met KurtLOCATION: Home , EldredYEAR: 2002TAGS: Vines, Craig Nicholls, Get FreePUBLISHED: April 22, 2008From the first riff, this song catches ya. Then Craig starts to sing, and man, if there ever was a meeting of the generations, here it is. Craig is the lead singer for The Vines (who are now working on their fourth CD) and the harmonies are so reminiscent of the Beatles, it's eerie at times. Not all their songs are as hardcore/screaming/post-punk as "Get Free", but since it was their first major release and their first video, it sticks with me the most. Craig has Asperger's Syndrome, so he tends to seem a little awkward at times when playing and singing, but that only adds to his persona, doesn't distract from it. He's a talented artist, musician, and songwriter, and is so obviously influenced by Nirvana. He brings the old and new together in one fell swoop and you can't wait to hear the next song. And coming from Australia, it may have been to his advantage to not have been overly influenced by all the other pap we have on the radio in the States, that he stuck to what he knew and merged the genres beautifully. Take Craig's advice; "Don't listen to the radio". Grab "Highly Evolved" and kick back. Move outta California, listen to a few guys from "down unda" and enjoy.
