If Ever a Man Didn't Understand a Song...

This song is so awesome, as Butch writes about a battered woman who leaves her situation and 'moved away to Colorado, said she'd found God and a boyfriend as well".  I remember hearing the song and getting the point of the lyrics right away.  Seeing women in relationships like this one, knowing what they go through and the desperation, makes you wonder how Butch knows enough to write about it as well.

However, I knew a guy, who was/is an abusive husband, and he heard the song and the meaning was totally lost on him.  He thought Joan killed herself over the guy, apparently because she was so distraught.  My first thought was that she offed the guy herself and took off to CO to live w/ her boyfriend now that she had the abuser out of the way.

I have a hunch that I'm right on this one.  And the abusive husband didn't get it.  And probably never will.

David said: I haven't heard this song yet, but it seems in a similar vein to the Dixie Chicks'"Goodbye Earl". I enjoyed Butch's last album... (2/17/2008)
