While I was a memeber of Alan Frew's message board, I befriended many people. One of the people I formed a rather close friendship with was Sonya (not her real name), a woman who resided in Europe.

In the autumn of 2003 Sonya told me the tale of her three day rendezvous with Glass Tiger lead singer Alan Frew during their last European tour in 1991 while Glass Tiger was opening for Roxette.

Sonya's stories were like fairytales to me: famous, handsome rock star meets cute, little lonely princess in a record store; tells her he loves her legs; invites her to a show that evening and then follows it up with an invitation for her to join him and the band on their last swing through Switzerland the following month.

She didn't leave out any details, right down to the kind of soap Alan used. Most were more intimate details than that. She even sent me pictures of them together in case I didn't believe her. But I did. I didn't need to see any pictures. I just felt bad for the girlfriend back in Canada that Alan was cheating on, the same woman he went on to marry. Then when Sonya told me about how Alan had ended it with her, I felt bad for her too. He had given her his phone number before he returned to Canada, telling her to call him "anytime". When she did, she got the brush off from the manager. Finally, Alan did speak with Sonya and told her to leave him alone. Well, fast forward to 2003 and Sonya was not leaving Alan alone. In fact, she was very much a part of his fan base and had even e-mailed him a few times. Of course he never replied. By now I had also met Alan and was developing a much different image in my mind of this guy whom, up until now, I thought was great. In reality, he seemed to be nothing more than a charming fake whose feet were made of clay.

In 2004 Sonya sent me a birthday package filled with things she had collected during her tryst with Alan in 1991. One of the more memorable things was a letter that Alan wrote regarding having the Glass Tiger song "Rhythm of Your Love" be in the Stoker film "Dracula". I laughed when I read it and realized that this guy had no idea what he was doing, as far as trying to get a song on a movie soundtrack went. Anyone who has seen "Dracula" and has heard "Rhythm of Your Love" knows that this song would NEVER have gone over for this film. Lucky for Alan, he never sent it. He would've been the laughingstock of Hollywood. It was handwritten, in Alan's writing.

The letter reads as follows:

Artist: Glass Tiger

Capitol Records Canada

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a tape containing a song by Capitol Recording Artist Glass Tiger from Canada. They would like to submit if possible the song "Rhythm of Your Love" for a movie soundtrack. The one in particular that would be ideal is Brahm Stoker's "Dracula" now in production and directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

The next line starts off with: This is a band that just completed a successful...but then some of that line is crossed off.

The next line begins: If the band feels it would fit in a movie give it a listen and if interested please contact the offices of management west International...

Then he went on to give the address and phone number.

The funniest thing about this letter is the fact that Alan has no idea that Sonya has it. He threw it away and when Sonya saw that he did, she grabbed it out of the wastebasket and kept it as a momento, among many other things. Years later he would even deny on his web site that he wrote it, which was even funnier because Sonya watched him write it!

I don't know if Glass Tiger will ever see their name on a movie soundtrack, but this was a good first try! Here's Glass Tiger performing "Rhythm of Your Love" live in Zurich...the same show that Sonya was at. Love the boxer shorts!
