People laugh at my husband and I when we tell them we met through the personals.  But this tale is true.

In 1993 I had an ad in one of those personal magazines and Mike responded to it.  Soon enough we met at a Dunkin' Donuts and chatted for five hours.  This led to another meeting the following weekend.

A few weeks after we met Michael invited me back to his apartment following our date.  Since he had been to my house several times by then, I figured it was my turn to see where he hung his hat.

Mike's apartment was the typical bachelor pad:  sparse furniture, no food in the fridge, noisy neighbors upstairs.

"You still have a turntable," I commented, noticing his stereo system in the corner of the living room.

"Yeah," he replied.  "I don't have a CD player yet.  I'm a slow evolver."

I laughed at his sense of humor.  Mike also didn't own a microwave or a VCR.

The record on the turntable was Steve Perry's solo LP "Street Talk".  Mike turned the stereo on and moved the needle until "Foolish Heart" began to play.

"Would you dance with me?"  I asked.

Mike took my hand and pulled me close.  As we swayed to the ballad Perry's lyrics "...you've been wrong before...don't be wrong anymore..." lingered in my mind.  I soon realized that my foolish heart had been left behind when I met Mike.
