Only the Beatles would knowLOCATION: home , MassachusettsYEAR: 1988TAGS: Diamond Sun, Glass Tiger, The BeatlesPUBLISHED: February 23, 2008As a fan of Glass Tiger's, I continued to follow their music with the purchase of their second LP "Diamond Sun". One item on the album struck a chord of curiosity with me. Having played the title track at full volume on my Walkman, I could distinctly make out a very faint voice at the end of the song, after the final fade-out. I figured it must've been one of the band members speaking but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what they were saying. At this same time a popular weekly radio show called "Rockline" was hosting two members of Glass Tiger: lead singer Alan Frew and bassist Wayne Parker. Listeners could call in and ask questions. Being a fan, I knew I had to call but was sure I wouldn't have a chance to get through. But I already knew what my question would be if I did. Fortunately enough I did get through that Sunday evening and posed my question to the guys. "At the end of 'Diamond Sun' there is a voice speaking. Who is it and what are they saying?" For a moment there was silence on the other end. Then Wayne spoke. "What do you think he's saying?" "I don't know. That's why I'm asking you," I replied. "The man speaking is Jim Vallance, our producer," Alan offered. I held my breath. And? Again, silence from their end. "Should we tell her?" Wayne asked. "Uh, naw, we're not going to tell you," Alan said. My heart sank. What good was it only knowing Jim Vallance was speaking if I had no idea what he was saying? "All I'm going to tell you is listen to 'Strawberry Fields Forever'," Alan concluded. Huh? The Beatles song? I didn't even own a Beatles record, how was I going to listen to that song? "Okay," I feebly replied in my seven-teen year old voice. I figured even if I didn't get the complete answer, it was still cool to talk to Alan and Wayne. Fast forward 15 year later. I found Alan Frew's web site and it reminded me of this conversation. Up to this point, it never dawned on me to search the Internet. So I did and discovered the answer to the mysterious message, imbedded in the liner notes to "Strawberry Fields Forever": "I BURIED PAUL". Alan confirmed my answer on his web site message board. Finally after all those years I could finally sleep at night knowing what was being said at the end of "Diamond Sun".
