Doing "The Reflex"LOCATION: home , BrookfieldYEAR: 1987TAGS: Duran DuranPUBLISHED: February 15, 2008When I was a teen it often became customary for my friends and I to "create" new dances to our favorite songs. One of my favorites became "The Reflex" dance which we developed in conjunction with the Duran Duran hit. The three of us would start the dance by jumping off the couch on to the living room floor. If we were still standing when we landed (one of us actually broke our arm trying to do this), we would then twist our hips around like we were using a hula-hoop. When Simon sang the line "...dancing on a Valentine", we would pantomine a heart shape in the air. We broke into a slight march at the start of the bridge and then as the chorus began we would start spinning around until we fell or just felt like stopping on our own. The rest of the moves were kind of aerobic: some arm swinging, leg kicks, deep knee thrusts. The grand finale was another jump off the couch followed by the three of us joining a line Rockette-style and kicking our legs in the air. Kind of a corny story, I know, but for three friends and fans of Duran Duran, this was a true sense of comraderie!
