The mall. The place pre-teen girls call their second home. Food courts and Nordstroms, Macy's, record stores, and all the stuff in between. It was also a great place to meet boys from "other school". Something that carried so much mystique in those days. In junior high I went through a period where my friends and I would spend afternoons after school walking to the bus stop across from St. Michael's Church and catching the number 10 bus and riding it all the way to Stoneridge mall in Pleasanton.

Though by car it's barely a 10 minute drive to the mall, by bus it's a good half hour or so. We would always sit in the back and giggle and laugh, as young girls do. The time would pass quickly, and before we knew it, we'd be at the mall. I loved the feel of the mall back in those days. Clean and smelling like new stuff. Back then we'd just hit every store just to try on clothes we didn't have money to buy, stare longingly at all the leather & suede jackets in Wilson's, grab some burgers at McDonald's, and of course browse forever in the music & movie stores.

Those were lazy fun afternoons hanging at the mall. The mall always had the hippest, yet mellowest music playing. Stuff that was popular, yet everyone could enjoy while attending to their various mall errands. The first time I heard this song we were walking through the mall, and I fell in love with it. My friend luckily knew it was Jellyfish. Then and there I marched to the record store and bought the cassette. Jellyfish was just starting to get some play on MTV, and I loved this album.

Not long after this album their mainstream popularity seemed to fizzle, and I never quite followed what happened to them. But on the rareoccasionsI here any song off this album, but this one especially, it takes me back to those lazy afternoons being a mallrat.
