JC, I MUST Have You

PUBLISHED: April 10, 2008

Bet most of you didn't think I had an N Sync memory in me did you? Of course I do. Anyone who was remotely aware of pop culture during the time of No Strings Attached, knows what a hoopla N Sync put on for it's release. One part of which were those damn Marionette dolls of each member of the band. There was quite a frenzy over these dolls, and though I was not remotely an N Sync fan (my boy band days ended somewhere between New Edition & New Kids breaking up), one of my close friends and coworkers had a daughter who was in junior high at the time and was a huge fan.

My coworker and her girls were almost like family to me, so it was hard for me not to get caught in the frenzy when she tried to purchase the last remaining doll, JC, for her daughter. JC was her favorite and of course was the only doll my coworker could not find for her while Christmas shopping that year. No surprise. I, always being up for a pop culture related challenge (rare books, movies, posters, etc), bet my coworker that I could find her a JC doll before they played It's Gonna Be Me On The Radio, again. That might sound like a lot of time, but anyone who was listening to radio during this time knows, that it was not much time at all.

Sure enough I was able to locate the LAST JC doll at a local target, that hadn't even been put on the shelf yet! Luckily my boss was out that day, so as It's Gonna Me played in the background my co-worker grabbed her keys and flew out the door. Everytime I hear this It's Gonna Be Me, I picture that whole doll search in my mind, as some sort of slow motion scene in an action movie. You know, where they have to get to the treasure before the bad guys do. That's right, somebody was gonna find that JC doll, and it was gonna to be me.
