I'm In Love With John Stamos

YEAR: 1988

TAGS: John Stamos, General Hospital, Full House, ER, Beach Boys

PUBLISHED: April 23, 2008

Oh good Lord, am I really admitting this? Where do I begin? I guess at the beginning. I was raised on soaps. At a very young age I was engrossed in all that was happening in the fictional east coast town of Port Charles (General Hospital). One of the young men that ran wild through the docks of Port Chuck, was a young man named Blackie. I loved Blackie. I even named my cat Blackie. I also pretended my ken dolls were Blackie. He was truly my first crush (well him & Rick Springfield, but that's another memory). Blackie was of course played by, my love, John Stamos.

One day the character, Blackie went to jail for something, and never returned. This was because John was leaving General Hospital for a leading role on a new sitcom, Full House. I immediately followed John Stamos as he transformed into my new crush, Uncle Jessie. Uncle Jessie was hot, he was cool, he was funny, he rode a motorcycle, he had a heart of gold, and he had great hair. Really, what wasn't to love?

One year, during the time I was madly & deeply devoted to Uncle Jessie, our local mall, Stoneridge, was putting on it's annual back to school gala. Every September it was the same thing, a fashion show of young girls showing all the hippest clothes available at the mall, followed by a concert by someone out of nowhere (I will not reveal the names of the other performers, because those memories are to follow).

That years my knees buckled as I read that years concert was going to be John Stamos!! Those of you who don't recall Full House, Uncle Jesse was in a band "Jesse & The Rippers". Well that year John Stamos & his real band would be playing at Stoneridge Mall. There was nothing in the world that could've been better.

I'll never forget standing in the midst of that huge crowd (John Stamos was no joke in our part of the world apparently) right behind the stage, waiting to see where he would be coming from. Finally one of the side doors opened and out strutted John Stamos, surrounded by bodyguards. He gave me a huge smile as he walked by me and made his way onto the stage. No, I am not crazy. He did smile at me, I'm sure of it.

The show was a blast. He mainly did covers of classic tunes, 60's surf stuff, and of course quite a bit of Beach Boys. Including this song, which would a few years later be the closest thing to a hit he would ever have. I still swoon whenever I hear it.

These days my darling John is saving lives and making love in the halls of good old County General over on ER. That hospital has been home to a few other hotties (paging Mr. Clooney and Mr. Wyle, STAT!) as well. Though I can't be sure, I believe John Stamos has been regularly appearing on my TV set since I entered grade school. If that doesn't make for a long term relationship on some level, than I don't know what does.
