He Owns A Piece Of My Heart: Part 2

Oh God, I asked for this broken heart. I really did. As my other stories, we were friends. I wanted more and he didn't. So he said, sometimes. Other times he said different. Other times he just went ahead and slept with my friends instead. Yea, that's friends with a plural. Meaning there were more girls in my group of friends that had slept with then those who had not.

At any rate, we continued to hang out all the time. When there was a party, we went together. We went on dates to the movies, out to dinner, rented movies, even went on double dates with a good friend and his wife all the time, and hung out like a normal couple. Except we weren't a couple. And there was the whole thing about him sleeping with my friends all the time.

The connection we had was undeniable, everyone around us saw it, and waited for us to become a "couple" officially. So why weren't we? I think the fact he was one of my older brothers closest friends forever hung over our heads. And again, there was that whole sleeping with all of my friends thing.

So if he was such a dog, why did I still spend so much time with him? That's easy, we had fun. We laughed and laughed and laughed. All the time. I couldn't begin to count the nights spent hanging out in his truck outside of a raging party, just the two of us. Listening to Clapton. When I sat to write this memory, I had planned on using Old Love. As I went through the list of Clapton songs I changed my mind and was going to use Promises, then Lay Down Sally, Bell Bottom Blues, and then I realized that Clapton reminds me of those nights. Any Clapton. I'm pretty sure Crossroads (this album) is what he always had playing in his truck.

She's waiting, was a song that at the time I liked to think was a good description of our situation. Though I might be taking some liberties in just how strong his feelings really were or were not. I never really knew. I waited and waited for him, but eventually, just as the song predicted, I found a stronger love to show into my heart.
