Meghan | MEMORY FROM 1998 Grease Is Still The WordLOCATION: Rose Pavilion Movie Theater , PleasantonYEAR: 1998TAGS: Grease, PleasantonPUBLISHED: April 15, 2008The biggest word to cross the lips of both my friends and my fellow broadcasting students back in the spring of 1998 was Grease!!! I myself was only a year old when the classic originally came out, so every memory I have of seeing Grease (like everyone else I knew) was on a TV. Well and listening to the soundtrack over and over again. So when Paramount announced that it was going to be rereleased in theaters to celebrate it's 20th anniversary, it was cause for celebration! A few of my fellow broadcasting pals were going to follow me to Pleasanton where we would meet up with some friends of mine and have dinner at TGI Fridays, which was across the parking lot from the movie theater. The lot was PACKED. I knew there would be a crowd gathered for Grease, but this was crazy! People playing the soundtracks from their cars and laughing and having a good old time. We had a great time and rushed over to the theater where we waited in line to get in. I swear we must have ran into half the people we had gone to high school with while waiting in that line. EVERYONE had come out to see Grease on the big screen. Finally we got in and founds seats. The crowd was so packed that the theater managers let people sit on the floor in certain areas and stand in the back. This really made no difference because as soon as Frankie Valli started singing the opening sequence every single person was on their feet singing along. People stood on their feet and sang with just about every song as it turned out. Seeing Grease that night was more like seeing a concert. It was fantastic. Everytime I hear anything off the soundtrack I'm taken back to that dark movie theater on one of my wildest movie going experiences ever.
