Meghan | MEMORY FROM 1994 Grab Your Sweaters Kids, Cause Hell Just Froze OverLOCATION: The Shoreline Ampitheater , Mountain ViewTAGS: Eagles, camping for tickets, concertsPUBLISHED: March 26, 2008The announcement that the Eagles were reuniting and going on tour was pretty big news in the music world. At least it certainly was in my circle of friends. So we all were set on attending at least one of the, I think, five shows that were scheduled for the Bay Area. Aside from going to what was sure to be an incredible show, the high demand for these concert tickets would give us an excuse to partake in what had become a favorite past time, camping out for tickets. For a short while in 1994 our new Safeway that had recently been built had a BASS ticket outlet. The only other BASS outlet in town had always banned overnight camp-outs, they had a strict 6AM rule. So when Safeway announced that they were not only opening a BASS outlet, but allowing people to wait overnight, we were stoked! Our first official camp out was a few months earlier for Pink Floyd tickets (a separate memory soon to follow...). The Eagles camp out felt like a reunion of all the folks we had met during the Pink Floyd camp out. Safeway served us free donuts and coffee, which was quickly laced with Schnapps, and we spent an evening talking about and listening to our favorite music, playing cards, and smoking cigarettes. Spring was in the air and the Eagles show was sure to be the highlight of the coming summer concert season. That next morning we got our tickets a mere 5 minutes before the show sold out. A month or so later the day of the concert finally arrived. It was the Monday of the last week of our Junior year of high school. What a way to kick off the summer! As excited as we all were, none of us expected the incredible show that the Eagles put on that night. As soon as the lights went down and the opening licks form Heartache Tonight started, we knew that indeed, "This night is gonna last forever. Last all, last all summer long. Some time before the sun comes up, The radio is gonna play that song..." Oh man, what a night.
