Galaxy Records

About a million years ago, back in 1989, there were no Borders Books & Music, no Target, no Walmart, and we most certainly did not have Amazon.com or Itunes. We, my young friends, had what we called, RECORD STORES. There was no CHAIN. Each & every small town had it's very own. Usually owned by some cool older long-haired guy, with some cool chick with tattoos who worked behind the counter. They of course were the authority on ALL things music. Our music store was called Galaxy Records.

This was THE music center in our part of the world. We purchased all of our tapes, rock t-shirts, posters, general memorabilia, and even our concert tickets from Galaxy records. It wasn't just a place to purchase all our music needs, it was a cool pace to hang out. We would sit on the floor by the magazine rack reading the latest Metal Edge & RIP magazines (remember those?). They would always have the coolest & latest albums blasting for all to hear.

I remember walking over to Galaxy one day and hanging out for hours listening to Skid Row. The entire album. It was air conditioned with lots of cool stuff to browse and look at. Not to mention lots of people coming in and out, all chatting about music. As convenient as doing most of my music shopping online is, I miss having a place like Galaxy. They ALWAYS had what I was looking for, whether it be a bootleg album, Japanese tour poster, whatever. So whenever I hear anything off this album, Youth Gone Wild especially, I think of hanging out at Galaxy. Those certainly were the good old days.
