College Ave

The first place my husband (then boyfriend) and I had together was a 1 bedroom duplex on College Ave, right at the edge of town. There was a duplex and two cottages behind a huge house that rented out rooms. So our duplex and the two cottages were down a dirt path way off the main road. It was very private and we came to be good friends with the other people that lived back there with us.

None of us had air conditioning, so in the summer we would set up one of those inflatable kiddie pools in the courtyard and just lounge in them all day. In the mornings we would open the whole place up to let the early morning air in, before the heat turned up. Whenever I hear this song I think about that place on College Ave, and the summers we spent there. Young and in love with nothing better to do.

My memories of those years are fun & carefree. We were a young couple with no real responsibilities and all the freedom in the world. I remember a lot of BBQ's, late night chats on our front porch with the neighbors, morning coffee in the courtyard, St. Patrick's Day parties, our first Christmas, planning our wedding. Deciding to have a baby. Pretty much every big thing that ever happened to me as an adult, started in that one room duplex on College Ave.
