Oops, too much beer!

Hotel California is a song I first heard whilst living with my ex. At that time I had no interest in it and dismissed it as 'his' music and therefore music I would probably not enjoy. After separation, I heard the song on radio a few times and began to take more interest. I was exploring some areas of life that the song lyrics seemed to explain.

A few years later, shortly before moving interstate, a new neighbor invited my son and I to dinner. I was quite social in those days, happily mixing with the other inhabitants of the neighborhood, and so I gladly accepted. The conversation soon turned to the subject of music and I mentioned that I liked this song when asked a question. I had soon downed a few beers and was happily chattering in general as I got to know the new neighbor. My son also often spoke, inquisitively. He was sipping soda pop.

At some point in the conversation, the meal appeared. I ate gratefully, my son greedily. I had also had a few more beers by this time. After dinner - and even more beer - the new neighbor who had been playing music mentioned that Hotel California had just played. I had completely missed hearing it. My attention had been on the beer and trying to appear sober, though fast slipping from such status. Now, whenever I hear this song, it always reminds me of that introductory meal. I must have come across as drunk as I actually was to have missed hearing the entire song.

LOL! Same here Appelman I thought so too, I had to read it again to be sure... No offense Madeliaette, this is really a fun memory. Aside from the fact that Hotel California is one of my favorite song of the Eagles. I mean my husband and I would fight over a microphone just to sing it on a video-oke... maybe I would share that memory one of this days... I even wrote a memory here on Jamsbio on one of the other songs of the Eagles the "Love Will Keep Us Alive" song, hope you have time to read it also. =) (3/14/2008)
