Music Is Indeed Therapeutic

I never really appreciated the therapeutic effect of music, or probably the more appropriate thing would be for me to say that I underestimated the healing powers of music. Fortunately, I realized this crucial fact before it was too late. In fact, the timing was more than perfect.

One of my tight buddies had been feeling on the edge for close to a week.  No it did not rain but it poured for her. She was just having one of those weeks, nothing was going well for her at home or school. The stress seemed to be accumulating by the day and finally it become too much for her to bear. So I decided we just sit and talk. This was not as easy as I had presumed, however.

As I listened to all the tensions slowly though surely released, I knew not what to say to her. At one point I thought of cracking a joke but humor was not what she needed. She required something more profound- inspiration, hope. A greater part of me yearned to reach out to her but I did not know.

Therefore, I  listened to her feeling helpless as ever. The only phrase I remember was telling her to take it easy. I do not know how she ended up with my Beatles CD. What I do know is that later on that evening she called sounding optimistic and in high spirits. She had listened to the lyrics ‘Here Comes the Sun’, which was all she needed. This song is truly something. It makes me realize that sometimes my voice can be in music.
