With my current boyfriend I was put in a rather awkward position. I paid him a surprise visit at work not so long ago. We were meant to go out over the weekend for a romantic afternoon but I thought of setting the mood prior to our outing. I was not at work that day so I prepared thai chicken tacosfor him his favourite dish plus some frozen banana yoghurt for dessert. I hired a taxi and I went straight to his workplace. On arrival, I found him engaged in other company. No it was not a girlfriend but his dearly beloved mother. She stood before me and I was speechless. She was the very last person I had been expecting to meet given the circumstances. This put Timothy in an uncomfortable position too!!. He smiled at me uncomfortably and introduced me to his mother as one of his ‘friends’ as it is not considered proper in our culture to introduce a girlfriend directly to a parent. It was not so bad after all. His mother reached out for my hand and was happy to have met me. Then Tim had to drop off some documents next door. He asked to be excused and his mother and I sat there and listening to the song playing in the background- ‘Baby Love’.
