Mocking Dick

My friends and I made a ‘nasty’ combination whilst still in high school. Not in the mean sense of the word but our clique was made up of all the different personalities. The introverts, the outgoing, the witty, the intellectual, the sporty were joined together in one group. Daphne had a great sense of humour. I would not be surprised if she ends up a stand-up comedian someday. She is the one who brings the most cheer into the group.

One of the other girls from our group, Anna had been going out with this guy for nearly half a year. The met during at a popular teen ice-cream hang out- Scoop. Their relationship had been going well for them until he lied to her. Derick seemed to be a great boyfriend. He was always there for Anna and he tried to make her happy at all costs. But he just had to lie to her, about his age of all things.

Anna was of the opinion that Derick was twenty-three when they met, allowing an age difference of five years but he was actually twenty-five. Don’t ask me how she found out but when she eventually did, she pledged never to have anything to do with him again. Although we were all of the opinion that Derick had been in the wrong we felt ending the relationship would have been too hard a thing for Anna to do.

After all, Derick seemed to be a nice guy on the whole. He was faithful above all else. Daphne teasingly told Anna to take the matter easy whilst we were at the same ice-cream spot chilling on a Sunday afternoon. ‘Oh please’, she said, ‘How much more damage now, unto me, Could one tender lie do?’ she asked Anna. We all roared into laughter.
