Looking back to the past rouses so many memories. I can not help but laugh at some of the things I used to desire while in my youthful years. For a long time I used to dream of dancing in the rain. I thought just being in the rain without an umbrella or some other protective barrier would be so cool. I most certainly did not consider the ailments such as Pneumonia, the long bedridden days and the steaming lemon cups of tea associated with such activity.

Of course, I would have had to make sure there was no one nearby, my mother especially. Parental supervision had been the number one limiting factor standing in the way of my dream. Various rainy seasons had come and gone. I would just sit and view the heavy droplets from my window. At times I would be in the company of my Nancy Drew collection, other times it would be my siblings and I together all wrapped up in one big blanket.

There is always comforting in knowing that some wishes no matter how zany do come true and after what seemed like forever, my dream eventually came to pass. It was towards the later hours of the day that the weather took a turn for the worse. Whilst the firts few droplets were pouring my parent's were getting ready for Good Friday mass. As soon as I could not hear the sound of the car engine, I got hold of my tackies, changed into my denim shorts and ran outside at the speed of lightning.

As the wise saying goes, 'strike while the iron is hot' and I was determined to do just that. I could not believe it. There I was dancing in the rain, losing myself in generous raindrops. Although I developed a bad cough afterwards for close to two weeks I realised that my dream came at a cost. Years later as I listened to the lyrics, 'It's Raining Men' by Countdown. I could not help but think of this childhood experience.
