Law or Medicine?

Dreams and ambitions have always come in various forms. I remember when I was still in school my stream mates and I were at one point at each other’s throats. The issue at hand was nothing really major just a matter of which subjects were more superior- Arts (English Literature, History, French) or Sciences (Biology, Physics, Chemsitry, Mathematics). Although some students in the class of 2004 strived to be accountants, architects and comedians most students wanted to become either lawyers or doctors.

These professions had so much appeal probably because of the challenges they presented particularly to either save or restore life. The would be lawyers and doctors became rivals as a result. Honestly speaking being an Arts student I favoured law over medicine and I vowed to remain adamant in my decision to became a barrister. The science students and arts students were often defensive around each other.

Most of the times it was  innocuous though at times it did  get personal. Like during Tuesday afternoons. The school provided upper sixth students with career guidance before study. Mrs Sibanda, the Guidance Counsellor occasionally arrived late which gave the class ample time to subdivide itself into aspiring Lawyers and Doctors. Now the lawyers had a song, ‘All Rise’ which we used to our advantage before the teacher walked in. This became a whack in the face for our opponents had nothing to sing in return. For those still in school I would encourage you to go for Law!!
