They do say ‘Knock before you open’ for a reason. I had always heard the saying, in the end it became mundane. Anyway where it really mattered I was sure to knock. I had never walked in on some inappropriately But it has been declared that there is a first time for everything and as for me the historic day eventually came to pass. It would have been better if I the people I walked in on had been taking a light nap, reading or just chilling.

Anyway to cut a long story short this is what happened. My eldest cousin, Simpson got married a few years back to his beloved wife Mary. They met abroad and we all love her African-American nature.  It was kind of obvious that they would end up together for life. I think for the first time, no one from my side of the family had any objections to a union. In previous engagements, there were always some unkind remarks when my cousins disclosed their intentions to marry. Instead of dividing the family, the union of Simpson and Mary brought the family closer together.

Prior to his wedding we hosted a party for him and his bride to be. The party was marvellous, held on a Saturday around uncle Jim’s spacious backyard. The highlight of the function was the words of shrewdness exchanged over a well-organized braai. The party really began after all the formal speeches. It was then that the children departed from the adults and we entertained ourselves through song and dance.

After some time I needed to use  the bathroom. I needed some soap to wash my greasy hands from all the pork. There was none in the bathroom so I made my way into Simpson’s room, for I thought everyone was outside.  I had never walked on a couple making out, I thought this only happened on tv. There they were cuddling with ‘Hold Me In Your Arms’ playing in the background. Oops!. I have always knocked ever since irregardless of where I happen to be.
