How I Hate Stray Dogs!!

LOCATION: Neighbourhood , Harare

YEAR: 2000

TAGS: Classy, Suburb, Officially, Marinade, Explore

PUBLISHED: March 18, 2008

Although when my family and I moved house it was to a much bigger place in a more classy suburb, there were some things I detested about the new place. It was awfully quite for instance and ‘each man for himself’ seemed to be the prevalent concept. I also had my own standards set.

I was expecting the place to be perfect seeing as it was officially termed a low density suburb. Then came the uncollected garbage which continuously piled up, the rapid veld fires on a Sunday afternoon when all you want is a breath of fresh air!. One thing I hated was stray dogs. I could not stand dogs which just roamed around the neighbourhood aimlessly.

There was a time when my friends came over to my place for the weekend. On my fourteenth birthday my parent’s organised a slumber party for me. We played outdoor games such as Nighttime Easter Egg Hunt, held talent shows and decided to explore the neighborhood. Actually my mother had sent us to get some marinade for her special peri peri chicken recipe.

The shops were not very far off but as a result of our leisurely pace the place seemed much further. On our way I spotted five dogs coming towards us. I just knew they were from our next door neighbours, what will all the drooling!. I knew they did not bite but I was really annoyed. Jane did the funniest thing. She was always good at slackening tension. To break the silence she started singing ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’. This was so hilarious. In the end, we all joined in. No wonder we call her the comedian!.
