Although I am of the belief that human life is the most sacred of all breathings beings, it is devastating to note that in some instances, animals seems to take precedence- dogs in particular or should I say man's best friend. I was dumbfounded the other day while taking a walk around the neighbourhood. I was meant to be doing my algebra homework that afternoon but the math just wouldn’t sink in. So I thought it best to go out for some air.

After ten minutes or so I knew my head would have cleared thus making it possible to constructively carry on with my prep. When I got to the corner I saw our next door neighbour holding his dog on the leash. The dog was dressed in a warm furry coat and matching boots. To top it all he was carrying a taxi bag filled with purina pet food, dog biscuits, canned dog food and other dog treats. His pet was surely headed for the dog hall of fame.

How dare he?. The previous day I had spoken to one of his domestic workers while collecting the mail. She was dressed in a torn, faded uniform and she was yet to receive her pay for the previous month.Although I love pets; I have two rabbits and a cat I consciously resolved as of that day never to put them above human beings. Perhaps if I play ‘There’s nothing better than love’ out loud the message just might sink in. I headed for the dvd player upon arrival back home and made sure he heard the lyrcis.
