Who has not had their first drink during adolescence?. It is quite common knowledge that every teeny at least once. This one of those must do’s before one reaches the age of twenty probably only second to driving. My friends and I made a deal that we will drink on the night of our prom, we were about sixteen then. This was something we wanted to do for fun, to make our prom night even more memorable.

All five of us had been in until Anna developed cold feet the day of the prom. She was the one who usually backed off at the last minute but after giving it some more thought she decided to go for it. It was only going to be a single glass of wine, nothing more. Daphne was quite certain she could take in three more glasses or even the whole bottle without getting knocked out but for her security and ours as well we made a deal to stick to just a single glass.

There were quite a number of varieties to choose from. Like the popular mukuyu, amarula and green valley brands but to play it safe we opted for red wine. The five of us had to contribute towards the purchase of the bottle. Twenty dollars back then was a lot of money, but we knew in order to quench our curious minds we had to part with the cash. Evelyn had the most mature facial features and so it was decided that she buy the bottle.

After helping her polish that grown up look she made for the shops and grabbed some red wine, ‘not suitable for persons under the age of eighteen’. We drank the bottle like a group of scientists eager to test a hypothesis and as for the conclusion?. To put it simply we ended up singing, ‘Red Red Wine, stay close to me’.
