At our worst our clan is a crazy lot but at our best a real match made in heaven. During the festive season of 2005, it was decided that we go on holiday around the mountainous regions of the country. We went to Nyanga in the Zimbabwe’s eastern highlands and it became tradition thereafter for the extended family to go out at least once a year.

The whole clan met at our crib on 20 December 1995. A bus was hired for the journey and the licenced adults took turns to drive. Everyone was excited the kids particularly. We did our last minute packing and by 9.30 a.m. were on our way for the six hour journey. On our way we caught up on the latest gossip and just news in general. Throughout the journey there wasn’t a single moment of silence. It was not long before we found ourselves halfway through the voyage.

This meant it was time for a break and more importantly it was time for our extraordinary home made samosas, red hot complemented by the chilli cheese fries. We stopped at a ‘park’ known for its superb recreational facilities and set for the mini picnic. It was a lovely day!. Before we recommenced with the journey Uncle Jim announced that we heard to get up and dance. He got hold of a CD and what do you know the song ‘I Can Feel The Beat’ began to play. We all got up and started dancing. The park was ours- we were lost in our own little world; far away from the hustles and bustles of everyday life. Can’t wait for December!.
