Dreams Do Come True After All!

Although my high school experiences were not completely desirable, there are some aspects I would not mind reliving. These mainly fall under the social segment of school. At the end of each year, the school hosted a horde of social functions. Most of them involving music. The most exceptional function was termed ‘ruling songs’, an event which subdivided the most popular songs into their rightful categories, love, rock, pop, rave, golden oldies etc.

The ten hottest tracks were to be selected for each category, the songs to be played at the final dance of the year. Of all the sections the most popular division was ‘Love’. Most students were either in love or could identify with the feelings of being in love. Therefore, this section was given special treatment, we had to vote for the best love song among a list of nominated tracks. In the year 2001, I fed my spirit with love songs- 99% of the tracks I listened to were to do with love- not the distressing tracks meant for those who had either experienced unrequited love, who were searching for love, those hurt by it or those merely infatuated by love. I was crazy about ‘Hey Baby’.

This song was loved by everyone, it became the song of the year in 2001.  For some reason I had imagined my dream guy serenading it to me. Apparently, my dream was not far-fetched as the lyrics captured what was inside of Tim, my current boyfriend. We met at a tennis club and when he gathered the necessary guts he approached me and calmy said, ‘Hey baby, I wanna know if you will be my girl?’.  It was that simple, actually no but it was more of an ice breaker before we got together.
