School- an Institution accountable of grooming doctors, lawyers, pilots and other distinguished professionals. I am more mindful than ever that school days are the best days of one’s life. Fortunately, when I look back I know I made the most of my high school days. School days weren’t entirely faultless, there were certain aspects I loathed with a passion but by and large those were the days. Of course it was not just books, books and more books throughout.  My high school was painstakingly aware that ‘All work and no play makes Jack a Dull Boy’ and simultaneously that ‘All Play and no work makes Jack a Mere Toy’.

The point was not to overwork ‘Jack’ with endless coursework, frequent tests and holiday lessons nor was it to permit Jack to doze off during lessons or send texts messages in between class. The school wanted Jack to be balanced, a well rounded member of society thereby enforcing policies which were not hanging too much on either side of the penny. When it was time for work they knew how to make us produce the needed grades, when it was time for play they made us loosen up. The school had what it called a ‘musical journal’, an annual competition held pertaining to music.

The chairman in charge, Mr.Adams came up with an intriguing theme in 2004- my last school year. Those in love had to choose a song, a single track they would have wanted their lovers to ‘woe’ them with. The day of the competition students brought their lovers, the song with the highest number of votes was played and the best couple walked away with several vouchers.  I voted like all the other students and the day of the announcement, I brought Tim along hesitantly. ‘Hero ‘had the most votes, and here’s the most fantastic part -Tim and I were the best couple. We walked away with clothing vouchers worth a fortune from the most popular local teenage shop- Alcatraz!.
