How I love being the third born!. I believe as a middle child, I am the most balancein my family. I would have very much hated to be the first born. Being the last born is not something I would have wanted either. I have seen what my sisters have had to go throug by virtue of either being the first or last child which has left me happy, grateful to have been placed right in the middle.

In a nutshell, my childhood experiences have never been extreme either on the negative or positive side. This one time my family organised a braai. It was meant to be a mini family get together to celebrate my mother's graduation. She had attained a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. The function was scheduled for the afternoon. My siblings and I got up as usual and before long it was time to prepare for the function.

We had to put the chairs out, organise the table, prepare the food and get the drinks ready. The eldest ran around more than my younger sister and I. She had to ensure that the meat had been defrosted and would be sufficient for the day. She also had to set up the braai stand and to gather the needed charcoal. Basically, she did all the dirty work. The youngest on the other hand was sent to the shops almost thrice in a row and when the guests began to arrive she had to get the gate, wash their hands and serve them as per request.

I do not mean to come across as lazy but I took care of the petty stuff like preparing the salad, arranging the flowers and decorating the place. Whilst doing all this, I was in the company of my Fat Boy Slim collection. I even had a few minutes to squeeze in and dance to- 'Praise You'. I guess this song reminds me of the benefits of being the middle child.
