Celeb Crushes

If I could turn back the hands of time, I would not mind reliving a particular day of my sixth grade year. I learnt with many interesting individuals at primary school, one of them was Primrose, a short but astute coloured girl. I admired Primrose for being original and true to herself. She was the one who always ventured into new territory and inspired the rest of us to do likewise. Coming out in the open as in revealing a crush was marked with stigma, like the equivalent of an HIV positive patient coming out in the open about his positive status.

But Primrose was the first to openly declare that she had the hots for a celebrity. Primrose had been breath taken by Usher. She adored him for his masculine structure, suggestive smile and charismatic personality . ‘You like Usher me too’, ‘I thought I was the only one’ were the next phrases exchanged whenever opportunity to chat arose in the classroom. Although not everyone had the hots for Usher other prominent musicians were let out in the open; Denzel Washington, R.Kelly, Puff Daddy, Will Smith, the list goes on.

I will not even start with the guys who had a list of celebrities enough to feel a file. Crushes did not seem awkward afterwards, the felt normal like a part and parcel of life. Primrose had broken the ice, finally. She needed too well someone had otherwise we would have turn into frozen beings unable to express emotion. But those were the days of infatuation and puppy love. I guess we have all experienced the real thing by now.
