As of 2001 all my diaries have come with a key but before I had used them like every other book. There were easily accessible until the day I learnt the hard way. Of all the people to have a crush on, I once had a crush on my Biology teacher. I come from an all girls’ school and for the first four years at the school, spotting a male was unheard of unless it was a parent or teacher’s spouse.

History was made in July 2001. The school employed Mr Rodgers as a teacher- the first male ever to be a member of staff. I don’t know what my classmates absorbed that day but it was not Biology. We were all taken aback not only because he was male but that he was young and not bad looking- quite a hunk actually!. Mr.Rodgers had the sweetest voice, moreso as his breath was ever fresh smelling of nothing other than peppermint.

The most embarrassing thing happened to me after he had been at the school for about a month. I kept a diary which I used to jot down important notes and reminders during each lesson. Every one of my teachers had a few pages assigned for their subject and a mini profile based on how I felt about the teacher. Mr Rodgers section had the lion’s share. His pages were highlight in soft colours. There I had written ‘Tom Be the man that’s mine’. I left the diary on my desk in the lab, his page open and he gave me the next day. I wanted to die!.
