kudzi | MEMORY FROM 2002 A Heartily Welcome!LOCATION: Classroom , HarareYEAR: 2002TAGS: Josephine, Aries, Assembly, Headmistress, March, ZoePUBLISHED: March 7, 2008When I was still at school, new comers were always welcomed accordingly. Even now, three years after I graduated from high school I am sure all new faces continue to receive warmth reception. New comers normally enrolled at the beginning of each year but for the first time a new comer joined us when we opened for the final term in 2002. I was doing Form Two. Josephine was her name and we soon came to call her Zoe.  She seemed excited to have been in a new place, to see bright faces already geared for a new term. At the same time, she was a bit jittery and self conscious. This was not surprising as one can’t get too comfortable around strangers. At eight O'clock all classes had to go to the hall for assembly. My class formed a straight line and we made our way to Veritas Hall. Assembly lasted roughly an hour. The headmistress briefed us on the major goals for the term and after a short prayer we were dismissed.  It was good to be back at school!. I had missed most of my friends and some of my teachers. It is amazing how a couple of weeks can seem like years. After assembly our class teacher walked in and introduced Josephine. She was given a breakdown of our class policy - that we were generally a happy bunch though we were expected to work hard, to be punctual for class and to hand in assignments on time. We then got to our favourite section- it was time to ask the new comer questions about her educational and life experiences. Our class had a little something extra for all new comers. When the questions finished we started clapping and began singing ‘What’s Your Sign’ by Desree. This made Josephine feel at home and turns out she was an Aries born on March 22, a day after my birthday!
