In college, young women have a tendency to go through phases when hanging out in a group of females is preferable to being around the opposite sex. Especially when a man has broken one female’s heart. It was in just that sort of circumstance when I relate most to the song “Friends in Low Places.” We all could be ourselves and gripe about men.

A girlfriend had broken up with some idiot. She was complaining to all who would listen to her.  At that time, we began plotting revenge. We thought about all of the mean things we could do.  We had Garth Brooks playing in the background, so one of us started changing the words to fit the situation.  To this day, instead of singing “I grabbed your glass of champagne” I sing “I grabbed your can of Keystone.” Other lyrics were rewritten to fit the situation, but those never really stuck. So, “Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots…”
