Overplayed

LOCATION: Roller Rink , Kamloops

YEAR: 1982

TAGS: djs, kids, songs, bribes

PUBLISHED: March 14, 2008

I worked for a short time at a roller rink in Kamloops while in high school. During that time I fell in love with the song ‘Jesse’s Girl’ and used to request it at least once a shift. It got to the point where the DJs wouldn’t play it.

But I really wanted to hear that song. On the days when I worked behind the counter at the concession stand I would bribe kids to go and ask for the song. I would buy him or her a drink or a candy or something. However, the DJs caught on and wouldn’t play the song if I were working. I don’t think anyone ever got rid of the song but I never got to hear it at the rink. So I had to go out and buy it.
