From the time I got up that morning, the sky overhead was cloudy and it looked like it was going to rain. A friend and I were going to the Canada Olympic Park for a concert that featured Paul Laine, Pursuit of Happiness and Bryan Adams. I was so excited, I love music and there was no way I was going to allow the possibility of getting rained on stop me. So I dressed in casual pants, a tshirt and a baseball cap. I tied a sweatshirt around my waist and put on a fanny pack. Then it was off to the concert.

My friend and I managed to find a place to sit on the grass fairly near the stage. We sat back and watched concert goers arrive, raising our eyebrows as a couple of young women appeared in white dresses and white high heels. Now I am all for dressing well but get real. Not only did the sky threaten foul weather but also it was an outdoor concert! We soon forget about those two though as the music started.

Paul Laine warmed up the crowd excellently and The Pursuit of Happiness gained new fans that day. I don’t think anyone was impatiently waiting for the headliner Bryan Adams since we were being entertained so well. When Adams did take the stage however, he was met with resounding cheers.

Bryan rocked the park and, since it was night, I failed to notice that the sky was getting darker. During the encore, ‘Summer of 69’, the sky opened up. The rain didn’t start as a sprinkle but immediately came down in buckets.  Mother Nature threw in her own light show with streaks of lightening. And still Bryan rocked on until he was pulled off the stage for his own safety.

All these years later, whenever I hear the song ‘Summer of 69’ I am back in that park watching the ladies in the white dresses slip and slide their way to shelter. And partying with Bryan.
