Foot BathLOCATION: Skyroom , CalgaryYEAR: 1991TAGS: Party, Skyroom, BandPUBLISHED: March 14, 2008In Calgary there is an area known as Electric Avenue, it is a length of street with pubs, bars and clubs. And there was a building known as the Electric Avenue. It was three floors – on the first was a dance club, the second was a lounge and the third was the Skyroom that had hard rock bands. I liked going there because it was close to where I lived and it was fun. (This was when I lived in Calgary and I haven’t been there in a dozen years so I don’t know what it is like now.)
I remember one evening when I went to the Skyroom to review Sven Gali for Rock Raff. There was a little room above the Skyroom that was used for the bands and I was very politely waiting for the record company PR guy to come talk with me. Someone was going up the stairs so I asked her to tell this person that I was waiting. The next thing I know he comes rushing down the stairs and gives a big hug then drags me up the stairs to visit the band.
When the show was over, a large group of us headed to the lounge on the second floor. I took off my shoes, which I usually did when I was walking down the stairs and had been drinking and had high heels on, and didn’t put them on immediately when in the lounge. I was standing there talking with someone when a band member came up and asked for a massage. He pulled a chair up and I gave him a neck massage. He left and someone else sat down. After about an hour I said that was it. My fingers were getting sore.
I started looking for my shoes and found them a few tables away. When I put them on my foot felt wet. The PR guy was there grinning at me and confessed. He and some other guys had been drinking beer out of them. I wonder how much booze they had had!
