KarenMagill | MEMORY FROM 1992

Concert Malfunction

LOCATION: Saddledome , Calgary

PUBLISHED: March 23, 2008

Poison was my favorite band for many years and they still hold a special place in my memories. I had met my best friend in the line up for Poison tickets, I had many good times associated with the music and I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing the band a second time in concert.

My friend J and I arrived and took our places in the front row. I had brought purple roses as well as photos of J and I. One of the security guards noticed my handheld bundle and offered to take it backstage for Poison band members, an offer I gladly took him up on. A little while later the security guard returned and put something on my chest. It was a guitar pick with front man Bret Michaels’ autograph. (I still have that pick today; I carry with me for luck.) So the night was starting off fantastically.

Poison took the stage and were putting on a great show. Suddenly Michaels jumps to one side and the section of the stage he was standing on fell to the ground. Roadies quickly appeared to snap it back into place and no one seemed to hurt. A little bit of excitement.

Poison was staying at a hotel a few blocks away from my apartment. In fact, I could see the entrance from my balcony. Later that evening as I was settling down for the evening, my buzzer sounded. I got excited hoping it was them but there was no one there.
