When I was growing up in the oil patch in southern Oklahoma, country music was king. I loved Johnny Cash, Porter Wagner, George Jones and all the others. Then something totally unexpected happened the summer of my 14th year...I discovered Mungo Jerry and rock n' roll. Our family took a vacation trip that August and I'll bet I heard "In the Summertime" twenty times between Oklahoma City and Santa Fe on the AM radio stations. By they time I returned to hot, dry Oklahoma, rock n' roll had become the soundtrack of my life.
