I wanna destroy, etc.LOCATION: Apparitions Food Court , Butler, PATAGS: punk rock, embarrassment, garage bandPUBLISHED: July 2, 2008Go into any Wal-Mart and you can probably purchase a "How to be in a Punk Rock Band" kit for $19.99. At the time, I didn't know about this, so I went about trying to form a band myself. Buy a guitar ... check. Find some band mates ... check. Buy a couple Dead Kennedys records and learn how to yell ... check. We used to play at this place which was connected to a pizza restaurant, and the venue was about big enough so 35 people could watch you play on a good day. Well, when there weren't 35 or 25 or 10 people in the audience, the band could see out the back door which was made of glass. So one day, we were playing this song and a guy walked by and he sort-of glared at us. Maybe we were out of tune. Maybe he didn't appreciate hearing some 16 year old kid blaring out a bunch of crap in the middle of a warm summer evening. No matter, I stopped the band and yelled "**** you!!!" out the microphone at him. Boy was I cool. Then, the guy who owned this fine establishment came marching out of the back and looked down at me (I think he was about 8 feet tall) saying, "If you EVER do that again you'll never play here again!" I was put in my place. I guess I learned that being in a punk rock band is not just about being a dick, but playing good music. It's not very anti-establishment to terrorize passers-by on the street. But, you should focus your energy on changing the ... government! poverty! injustice! etc. Heh.
