The only thing I wanted for my birthday one year was the cassette tapes of one of his albums. I guess I was a weird kid. But my favorite memory that has to do with this famous song and music video took place on the marching band practice field. The band has a costume contest every year for halloween. The colorguard decided to dress up as a box of crayons, complete with each of us wearing different colors from head to toe and pointy, colored hats. But that's definitely not the reason that we won the contest that year. We won because the captain, who happens to be semi-obsessed with Thriller, taught the entire 25 member guard the moves straight from the video. It was like that moment from 13 Going On 30 when all of the people around start joining in. It was amazing. We set up a stereo and surprised the band with our performance, up front and center stage. Needless to say, we gave an amazing rendition, to great reviews; I guess we won that contest fair and square. I'm sure there are only more memories to look forward to with this song, considering I even heard it at a carnival I attended the other day (when my friends and I decided to dance in the middle of the crowd, of course). But the most interesting memory to look forward to is when we perform this song in our half-time show next year...
